How to join

Visiting Machspace before joining

Most of the time Machspace is a members-only space. However, you can visit as a guest of a member, and you can visit on open days when Machspace is open to the public.

Step 1: Application form

You can apply for membership online here, or you can fill in a paper form at Machspace.

Step 2: Induction

You will need to email us to arrange your induction: hello@machspace.org (If you don’t come to an induction within 6 months of applying then we will delete your data for GDPR and data security reasons, and you will need to reapply; we will email you to let you know that we are doing that.)

Here’s how to contact someone to book an induction:

NameContactAvailability
Averyhello@machspace.org
Email subject: Induction, FAO Avery
Mornings from December 2024 onwards.
Cassianhello@machspace.org
Email subject: Induction, FAO Cassian
Afternoons and evenings, from mid-December 2024 onwards.
Ruthhello@machspace.org
Email subject: Induction, FAO Ruth
Weekends.
You can also put more than one name in the subject if applicable. E.g., if you can do evenings and weekends, put Induction, FAO Cassian or Ruth.

You should bring some photo ID to the induction. We’ll need to see it to verify your identity, but we won’t make a copy.

During your induction, the volunteer/director will let you into the makerspace and go through the member guide and code of conduct with you. You will have to sign a copy of the code of conduct, to show that you’ve read and understood it and that you agree to follow it.

You’ll then be given a membership number and a key fob. You can use this key fob to access the makerspace at any time.

Step 3: Payment

Most makerspaces operate on a monthly fee model for membership, often with a sliding scale. Thanks to a grant for running costs from the Social Value Forum Powys, Machspace works on a “pay-what-you-feel” model. This means that you can choose how much to pay per month until the end of the SVF grant period in March 2025.

When you receive your membership pack, it will contain our bank details for setting up a standing order. Since we’re a very new non-profit, any regular payments are very gratefully received.

We are currently trialing a new direct debit system, which we hope to implement fully in April 2024. You can help us out by setting up your monthly direct debit here. You can participate in our consultation about upcoming membership fee changes here until 17th November 2024: 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 English // Cymraeg 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
